Teacher JOHN SANCHEZ » Sr.Sanchez

Sr.Sanchez

My name is John Sánchez, and I am very excited and proud to be your child’s teacher this year! I am committed to do everything within my power to make this year successful for all of us.  There is a great excitement building as the new school year begins.

This is my sixth year at this fantastic school and I look forward to a year filled with unlimited learning experiences and fun times. I am originally from Perú. I came to the United States at the age of 13. I attended Hicksville High School on Long Island. I understand the difficulty of learning another language at that age. I successfully graduated from Hicksville High School, and attended Nassau Community College. While at NCC, I joined the soccer team and won Division III National Championships in back to back years. Just like I love my profession, I also love sports and love teaching them to children.  I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Stony Brook University and my Master’s Degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Touro College.

In addition to furthering my education, I have also worked as an independent tutor. I have worked at different Long Island school districts, charter school in Astoria before arriving at JHS194. Since my arrival here, I have learned to become a better professional and role model to my students. Learning a second language is an exciting opportunity that is very useful in today’s diverse world.  My goal this year for your child includes helping him or her to develop a stronger vocabulary, build a solid grammar knowledge, carry out conversations and prepare him or her for the NY state exams while appreciating cultural differences between our culture and those of Spanish-speaking countries around the world.

I intend to make learning a positive experience for your child and ask that you help me by supporting your child at home. I am looking forward to a very successful year and I know you are too.  I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can help your child achieve those expectations.  I want to thank you in advance for all your support.

Tips for success
  • Encourage the student to speak to you in Spanish and to tell you what have they learned in class.

  • Ask how you can help them out if they have a project to work on. (Let them know that “two heads are better than one”)

  • Remind them to not be afraid of making mistakes in class, in order to succeed we need to take baby steps, and making mistakes are part of becoming a better language learner
